First trip to Hanoi vietnam

On January 21-26, Liu Xin, Shizhen and Gan Zhang paid a fruitful visit to Hanoi of Vietnam. The group was invited by Professor Tu Mihn of VNU Hanoi. We were able to visit respectively VNU University of Sciences, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (VNU University of Natural Resources and Environment), as well as Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).  We had intensive discussions with our Vietnam collaborators including Prof Mihn, Drs Tri and Thang, with collaboration plans set up. In between of the academic visit, we were also able to visit the beautiful Halong Bay for a relax.

Gan gave lecture on HAPs training workshop in Chengdu

On 10-12th of Dec, Gan was invited to deliver a lecture on the monitoring and management of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) in the training workshop of “Prevention and control of Hazardous Air Pollutants” in Chengdu, which was hosted by the Ministry of Ecological Environment (MEE). More than 120 staffs working on the atmospheric administration from 31 provinces attended the workshop.

Gan introduced the ATMSYC project progress and shared his opinions on the control and management of HAPs in China.

The 2nd ISEH

On Dec 5, Gan Zhang attended the 2nd International Symposium on Environmental Health (ISEH) at Shanghai. He gave a key note speech introducing the newly identified up-PCBs in the atmosphere of Ningbo regional atmospheric background station which was done by  Shuduan. It was very cold in Shanghai that day! He also chaired a session on ‘Toxicity characterization of emission sources’ with some ‘old’ friends and excellent young scientists, especially Wang Rong of Fudan-U who published his first paper, while he was a undergraduate student in Peking University, coauthored with Gan, who he haven’t met before!

Wang Rong (left 2) coauthored with me his first paper in his research career, but this was the first time we met. He is an excellent modeler in atmospheric science. Shown here also are Professor Mu Yujing (left 4) of RCEES.CAS and Mao Hongjun (left 5) of Nankai-U.
