Trip to Guiyang

From 7 to 10 July 2026, Gan and Shizhen visited Guiyang to attend the symposium on the frontiers and future development of geochemistry, held in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. During the symposium, Gan delivered a keynote presentation entitled “Isotopic Tracing of Black Carbon in the Environment.” After the conference, they visited Tianhetan with Xuyue, Lin Tian, and Zhang Hui, enjoying the beautiful karst landscape and a relaxing time together. Guiyang also proved to be a true paradise for food lovers!

The 4th National Symposium on Gas Isotope Geochemistry

On May 7-10, 李静li Jing, 徐步青Xu Buqing and 张干Zhang Gan attended the 第四届气体同位素技术与地球科学应用学术会议4th National Symposium on Gas Isotope Geochemistry in 西安Xi’an. Gan delivered a plenary speech on compound-specific radiocarbon;  Buqing gave an oral presentation on diacids in Lhasa, and Li Jing talked about radiocarbon mapping by plants in Shenzhen, respectively.  We were invited by professor 牛振川Niu Zhenchuan, to visit   the CAS Institute of Earth Environment at Xi’an on May 10, giving, jointly, a ‘big’ presentation with stories and academic elements on the development and applications of radiocarbon technology in our group.  On May 9th night,   we went jointly with 丁翔Ding Xiang to 大唐不夜城Nightless City of Tang Dynasty and enjoyed the views and traditional art performances, where we surprisingly met 王晓Wang Xiao who was a member of our group. Gan was happy to join with two Swordswomen in their cosplay performance for fun.  It is a trip full of nice food, familiar people and enjoyable academics.

Beibu Gulf University

On January 11-12, Shizhen and Gan went to Beibu Gulf University (北部湾大学）in Qinzhou (钦州) for the annual meeting of the Field Station of Pinglu Canal (平陆运河河口海湾生态系统野外科学观测研究站), amid which Zhizhen was able to see Xuelin（雪琳) and Hangyi(航毅) who were working in the lab of the university for pretreatment of our water samples collected from the coast of Beibu Bay. Both of them had been working very hard in the lab and Hanyi also on the sampling boat. We met as well Professors Wang Yinghui (王英辉) of Guangxi University and Tang Jianhui (唐朝辉)of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone CAS, and jointly visited the Centaury Project of Pinglu Canal (平陆运河). It is very excited for us to meet occasionally there!
