Zhu Ying visit GIG and gave a lecture

On  Jan 18th, Prof. Ying Zhu (朱樱）came to GIG and gave a lecture about her high-resolution modeling of multi-media environmental fate of organic pollutants at national scale. Prof. Shizhen was the host today, and Prof. Ying and her were in the same group during their PhD. The topic of the lecture centered around advancements of Prof. Ying’s three model: SESAME V3.4, DEFT and SESAME-Crop (in preparation). Moreover, the lively discussion and Q&A session that followed the lecture highlighted the interest and enthusiasm her research has generated. Overall, Professor Ying’s visit has left an indelible mark on our group.  We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone as esteemed and knowledgeable as Prof. Ying, and we look forward to implementing her insights in our future research endeavors.

Environmental geochemistry meeting in Guiyang

On August 11-13, Shizhen, Gan, Junwen met Xu Yue in Guiyang on the 8th Conference on Environmental Geochemistry. It was really nice to see Xu Yue after seemingly a long time. Meanwhile we met many familiar faces in the circuit. Gan gave an oral presentation on radiocarbon in the atmosphere. After the conference, Xu Yue arranged a casual trip to the upper reach of Wujiang River (乌江源), which is very memorable.

Environmental analytical chemistry conference at Nanchong

On August 10-11, I was invited by Professors Ouyang Gangfeng (欧阳钢锋) of SYSU and Yang Xiupei (杨秀培) of Xihua Normal University (西华师范大学) to give a keynote speech on the 4th Conference of Environmental Analytical Chemistry at Nanchong (南充). I introduced our work on developing the radiocarbon analytical techniques for tracking carbonaceous species in the atmosphere. After the conference, as one of the standing committee members of Minmeng Party Guangdong Branch (民盟广东省委), I was arranged by Mr Ren Zhaogang (任兆刚) of XHNU to visit the memorial house of Mr Zhang Lan (张澜), who was one of the founders of Minmeng Party (民盟). The acting director of Nanchong Minmeng Party, Mr 唐虎鸣,  and his assistant 范虎 accompanied me during the visit.   It was a great trip, albeit the very hot weather in Nanchong!
