20th POPs Forum in Zhuhai

During 16–19 May, Gan, Shizhen, and several group members attended the 20th POPs Forum in Zhuhai. We contributed a total of 13 oral presentations. Gan hosted the session “Emerging Contaminant Control in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (粤港澳大湾区新污染物治理)”. Shizhen also joined the Specialized Committee on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs专委会) and became a new member of the Early Career Advisory Board for the journal Emerging Contaminants. She co-organized and chaired a session “Environmental Fate of Emerging Contaminants in the Atmosphere and Oceans (大气与海洋新污染物的环境命运)”together with Prof. Tang Jianhui (唐建辉)from Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (中科院烟台海岸带所) and Prof. Yuxin Ma (马玉欣)from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (上海交通大学). Congratulations to Deng Xin (邓馨) for winning the Best Oral Presentation Award for PhD Students!

We were also very happy to meet several alumni from the group, including Li Qilu (李琦路), Zhang Ruijie (张瑞杰), Wang Yan (王琰), Huang Yumei (黄玉妹), Zheng Qian (郑芊), and others. What a wonderful gathering, and see you all in Yichang next year!

The Fifth Year of the “Fish Plan” — We Are Always on the Journey

From February 4th to 6th, the Air-Omics Squad(“爱米小分队”) efficiently completed the 2025 Fish Plan(“咸鱼”计划) ,marking another significant milestone in the team’s five-year journey of continuous research efforts. This year’s project brought together a blend of experienced veterans and enthusiastic new members, including fresh participants Yuxin, Hangyi, and Qijing. The team was divided into two groups, working in Lab 206 and Lab 409 respectively. All members were equipped with gloves, masks, and knives, and carried out the procedure under strict quality control protocols with exceptional dedication.

The Fish Plan once again demonstrated the outstanding teamwork and execution capabilities of the Air-Omics Squad. We look forward to embracing the challenges of the sixth year with even greater enthusiasm and a proactive attitude, aiming to achieve even more remarkable accomplishments!

Eight Students Complete Mid-Term and Proposal Defenses

On October 17th and 18th, eight students from our research group successfully carried out their mid-term defense and research proposals. Yingjian, wanzhe, siqi, xiaosong and zibing shared the progress over the past year, detailing key milestones and insights from their research. In addition, three master’s students, Xueling, Hangyi, and Yuxin, successfully presented their research proposals. These sessions provided a comprehensive overview of the ongoing projects and future research plans. The presentations were evaluated by an esteemed panel of experts, including Professor Zhang Gan, Zhao Shizhen, Li Jun, Zhong Guangcai, and Mo Yangzhi. The feedback and insights from the panel were invaluable in guiding the next steps of the research.
