Red River Sampling Campaign of Linbo

From the 18th to 30th of January 2026, Linbo Yu visited Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, to conduct a sampling campaign on emerging contaminants in the Red River Basin. A total of nine sets of surface water samples were collected with the assistance from Prof. Tu Binh Minh’s team at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The sampling sites covered both the mainstream and major tributaries of the Red River, including cities such as Hanoi, Hung Yen, and Hai Duong, as well as Ba Lat Estuary and Hai Phong Port, where the mainstream and tributaries discharge to the Beibu Gulf, respectively. An additional set of samples from Ha Long Bay were also collected. This campaign serves as a valuable supplement to the recent winter scientific expedition to the Beibu Gulf carried out by Yuxin and Hangyi, which aims to gain insights into the contamination status of this region.

Apart from the field work, Linbo also received warm hospitality from Prof. Minh’s team: Dr. Nguyen Xuyen and Mr. Dao Duy Anh helped extensively in Linbo’s settlement and sampling work, took him on a cultural tour to Hanoi’s iconic historic sites and explored local cuisine.

Shared Birthday, Double Fun: Celebrating Zhao Shizhen and Shao Yingjian

On June 28, 2025, the Air Omics squad, postdoctoral fellows and Professor Tang Jiao gathered together to celebrate a shared birthday party of Professor Shizhen and student Yingjian. The celebration took place at Xiangzhiyuan, a  genuine Hunan cuisine restaurant.
We prepared beautiful flowers and a delicious birthday cake for the two birthday stars. As everyone enjoyed the cake and chatted together, the room was filled with warmth, laughter, and happiness. It was a joyful evening filled with laughter, great food, and a little birthday luck we all hoped to borrow!

The Finale-wet Season Sampling of GEOBBC Program was Carried out Successfully

On Oct 16-18th, a group of us (Gan, Shizhen, Xiaofei, Buqing, Jiao, Linbo, Zhicheng, Weiru, Xiao) went to the Dongjiang River for the final intensive sampling champaign in wet season. Zhicheng was elected to be the “commander”, who has been newly titled as “胡一钻” by Prof.Gan for his subtle skills to sample a perfect sediment column at one try. Prof.Gan and Miss Shizhen were special guests, who instructed the sampling operation patiently and brought us good luck for sampling. After a three-day hard work, samples including 4 sediment columns, 29 surface water samples, 3 sets of water samples of different depths, 1 bulk depostion samples and several passive air samples were collected. The whole intensive sampling champaign in two seasons has completed successfully and all the samples will be treated rationally and carefully. We are looking forward to the follow-up accomplishments!

Good luck from Miss Shizhen. ❤
