A Sri Lanka update

On June 25th-July 2nd,  the team of four, Shizhen, Jun, Guangcai and Gan, restarted international travels after the long-lasting COVID-19. We first visited Sri Lanka to promote our ANSO MOROTOXA program.  We left via Shanghai therefore we were able to pay a short visit to Lin Tian (林田、赵祯)et al. at Shanghai Ocean University where we also met Yingjun (陈颖军) and Prof Guo Zhigang (郭志刚)of Fudan University who joined thegathering.  We arrived at Colombo in the evening of June the 26th, returned to Kunming on July 2 morning.  In Kandy, We met Professor Karu and his colleagues with great pleasure; and visited the Postgraduate Institute of Sciences (PGIS) and the Sino-Sri Lankan Joint Centre for Research and Education at Peradeniya University. Shizhen and Jun demonstrated setting up the active sampler. Gan delivered presentations on the CKDu water tank sediment core study results, which attracted great attention, and the background of our ANSO MORATOXA program, of which Peradeniya University has been a partner. We had chance of cause to visit at the weekend several historic and natural attractions of Sri Lanka; and celebrated cheerfully at Trincomalee Shizhen’s  birthday. A wonderful trip!

Returning the lunar regolith sample

On June the 12th afternoon, the team of three, Guangcai, Shizhen and Gan escort the lunar regolith sample back to China Lunar and Deep Space Expenditure headquarter (中国月球与深空探测中心) at Beijing. We applied the regolith sample (6,000 mg) for searching organic matters on the moon. We are proud that important progress has been, quite likely, made! We hope to announce our findings soon this year, despite huge amount of work in laboratory are still needed for more stories. I would like to record more pictures of this memorial moment.

POPs Forum 2022 in Qingdao

On May 17-19, Gan Zhang, Shizhen Zhao and Weiru Wang attended the POPs Forum 2022 held in Qingdao, which has been postponed till 2023 due to the COVID-19. Gan delivered an excellent presentation on POPs in atmosphere. We also met Limin Hu and Tian Li in Qingdao. Thanks for Prof. Tian and Prof. Limin’ s enthusiastic guide, we went a wonderful sightseeing in Zhanqiao (栈桥) and Ocean University of China (中国海洋大学, OUC for short) for nice food and fun hiking at night. Besides, we also do appreciate that Prof. Xinhong Wang and Prof. Jianhui Tang treat us to fancy dinner. All in all, it was a wonderful journey for academic exchanges and old friends gathering together.
