Prof Habib’s seminar

On Jan 29th, Prof Ashan Habib gave a speech on the topic of “industrial waste management in Bangladesh: challenges and strategies. The lecture mainly focused on the use of nano TIO2/ZnO  as photocatalysts and adsorbents in the treatment of dyeing wastewater and the POPs pollution in Bangladesh. The presentation shed light on the alarming environmental consequences caused by inadequate waste management practices in Bangladesh. Professor Habib emphasized the urgent need to address this issue to safeguard public health and preserve the natural resources of the country. Overall, Prof. Habib’s lecture provided valuable insights and measurements on tackling the challenges faced by the country.  Last but not least, Prof. Habib was given the PIFI (President’s International Fellowship Initiative) and he may stay in GIG for 9 months.

Zhu Ying visit GIG and gave a lecture

On  Jan 18th, Prof. Ying Zhu (朱樱)came to GIG and gave a lecture about her high-resolution modeling of multi-media environmental fate of organic pollutants at national scale. Prof. Shizhen was the host today, and Prof. Ying and her were in the same group during their PhD. The topic of the lecture centered around advancements of Prof. Ying’s three model: SESAME V3.4, DEFT and SESAME-Crop (in preparation). Moreover, the lively discussion and Q&A session that followed the lecture highlighted the interest and enthusiasm her research has generated. Overall, Professor Ying’s visit has left an indelible mark on our group.  We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone as esteemed and knowledgeable as Prof. Ying, and we look forward to implementing her insights in our future research endeavors.

Six-day Travel in Bangladesh

From September 18 to 24, He Kun visited the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh at the invitation of Professor Ahsan Habib, as part of the Research Project of the Alliance of International Scientific Organization (ANSO) – Monitoring and Risk Assessment of Air Toxicants (MORATOXA). The purpose of this visit was to repair the medium flow sampler placed at the University of Dhaka, transfer and bring back 55 sets of atmospheric samples, 42 sets of dust and 24 sets of human-haired samples collected, clean the sampling container and refill with clean sampling material, discuss existing research progress and further sampling plans, and promote substantive exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. During the visit, Kun had the opportunity to experience local traditions and cuisine. Kun also met with Professor Ahsan Habib’s research group and other colleagues, gaining valuable insights and knowledge.
