Tang Jiao publishes in STOTEN

Tang Jiao’s new paper ‘Molecular signatures and formation mechanisms of water-soluble chromophores in particulate matter from Karachi in Pakistan‘ was recently published in STOTEN; and it was of Karachi, Pakistan! Congratulations!

  • EEM-PARAFAC identified two humic-like and one phenolic-like component in Karachi.
  • Humic-like components consist of molecules with higher aromatic and oxidative degrees.
  • Humic-like component with a longer emission maximum largely contributes to WS-BrC.
  • Oxidation processes are important pathways for the formation of humic-like components.

Xiaofei’s new paper accepted by ES&T

Xiaofei’s new paper entitled ‘ Provenance of Aerosol Black Carbon over Northeast Indian Ocean and South China Sea and Implications for Oceanic BC Cycling‘ has been accepted for publication in ES&T; and was chosen as a supplementary cover story of the issue. Congratulations!

Image chosen for a supplementary cover story of the ES&T issue. The little Asian elephant was added as an element to represent the South and Southeast Asia, where the studied area was.

Figure 4. Source fractions (pie chart) and air mass back trajectories (colored lines) of aerosol black carbon (BC) in the dual-carbon isotope province of “SCS close to Chinese Mainland” (gray), “Open SCS” (green), “NEIO close to Southeast Asia” (blue), “Open NEIO” (light purple), “Malacca Strait” (pink) and “Sunda Strait” (orange). Air mass back trajectories in an isotope province share the same color. (SCS: the South China Sea; NEIO: the northeast Indian Ocean)

“Wind-in-his-hair” Intensive Air Sampling Campaign (summer, 2023) Initiated Successfully in Wanshan and Huadu

On August 2nd and August 3rd, a small group led by Shizhen Zhao(赵时真)and Pingyang Li (李平阳)went to 花都竹洞村 and 万山岛, respectively, to set up intensive air sampling sites. Lele Tian(田乐乐), Jianchu Ma (马建初), Yingjian Shao(邵英健)and Weiru Wang (王惟儒)also participated in arranging the sampling materials and laying out sampling site at Huadu.  Kun He(何坤)and Jianchu Ma (马建初)got involved in setting up sampling site at Wanshan Island (万山岛). We also found great places for Kun and Yingjian to live and work at Wanshan Island and Huadu, respectively. The weather was so hot that all of us were back with sweat streaming down our backs.

So many stuffs well arranged by Lele.

Pink tool cabinets enable boys to work harder. 🙂 Sampling devices at 花都 for CO2, air, particle and deposition collection.

Sampling devices at 万山岛 for CO2, air, particle and deposition collection.

Attractive living and working conditions for Yingjian.

Tired but happy.
