Zhuhai annual workshop

On December 10-12, in Zhuhai珠海, many of us attended the annual bilateral workshop of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory on Environmental Processes and Pollution Control, which is mainly between SKLAET and FCE of Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU). I gave an opening talk with a title of Old Path White Clouds（故道白云）, for a retrospective view of the mass spectrometry (MS)’s iteration and evolution in SKLOG-SKLAET with emphasis on the MS emplacement and performance in our group. Guangcai钟广财 presented new progress ion the application of BPCA to studying BC’s role in aerosol light absorption properties and toxicity. Jiang Longfei江龙飞 talked on the microbial processes involved in the degradation of OPEs in soil. Li Jing李静 gave a nice talk on plant ¹⁴C monitoring and modelling in Shenzhen, and was awarded the Best Oral Presentation; Shaojun吕少君 introduced her extraordinary results of aqueous formation of hydrophilic organophosphorus esters (OPEs); Buqing and Jianchu 马建初 both presented their posters, and Jianchu’s poster on micro and nano-PVC plastics as vectors of chlorinated paraffins (CPs) in the atmosphere was awarded the Best Poster Presentation. Shizhen赵时真 and Buqing徐步青 attended the workshop and contributed in their discussion sessions. Buqing步青 reported to the workshop on the discussion results by on behalf of the PDRAs group. Luo Chunling 罗春玲chaired a session; and Jibin 李继兵and Longfei江龙飞 helped in looking after the organizations of the workshop. We met many friends from both Hong Kong and Sun-Yat-San University, including professors Li Xiangdong李向东 and Zou Shichun邹世春, Haoyu蒋昊余, Tan Yujun谭羽俊 etc. Nice food and nice hotel, a great and memorable annual gathering!

Guangcai’s new paper on polyaromatics in Chang’e-5 lunar soil accepted by NC

On April 1, Guangcai’s new paper , entitled ‘Polycyclic aromatics in the Chang’E 5 lunar soils‘ , was accepted by Nature Communications for publication.

It has been a great challenge for us, that it has been 40 months before the final acceptance of the paper. We received the lunar soil samples in Beijing on November 22, 2021, we completed all lab analysis and returned the sample to the authority on June 12, 2023. We worked out and achieved the success.

Academic saloon at Huanghe River Mouth

On September 12-14, we organized an academic saloon gathering many of the current and former group members and those of our intimate collaborators. The saloon took place at a wetland field research station in the Huanghe River Mouth, which was established and has been managed by the Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone (YIC) of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The event was also a element of the Environmental Geology and Geochemistry Committee of the Chinese Society of Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry. Four keynote speeches, given by Professors Han Guangxuan (韩广轩, vice-director of YIC), Guo Zhigang (郭志刚，Fudan University), Tang Jianhui (唐建辉) and Shizhen (赵时真), respectively, invoked hours of lively discussions among the attendants. We had also time slot to go into the extremely beautiful Huanghe Mouth wetland for sightseeing. We have almost fixed the paradigm of the partners academic saloon of the group, and we will do it one or more times every year. Before the saloon, four of us (Shizhen, Jibing, Jun and Gan) together with Professor Chen Yingjun of Fudan University, also took the opportunity to climb to the top of the Taishan Mountain, which is definitely a great challenge! I also wrote two traditional Chinese poems to record the exiting experience and what was in my heart, upon the journeys.
