Group history in pictures (assembly 3)

ga_h3_1Ladies at a group gathering on Christmas 2009 (Dec 23rd). The were cheerly showing their beautiful scarfs on the neck which were Xmas gifts from Gan Zhang. The front/middle girl, Linthoi, is an assistant professor in the Central University of Bihar in India. Her husband, Yadev is going to join us in April 2014 for postdoctoral studies.

ga_h3_3Yanlin and Cao Fang, the couple went to Swiss for postdoctoral research in 2010. They have two baby boys now, and is going to move to Hokkaido University, Japan to work with Prof. Kimitaka Kawamura (河村公隆)who is a famous aerosol chemist.

Group history in pictures (Assembly 2)

ga_h2_1On his 41st birthday on March 31 2008. This was chosen as his blog banner picture ‘Garden of Excellence’.

ga_h2_2_2Baruch Spiro (left 4) works in Natural History Museum in London. He received a CAS visiting professorship and stayed with the group for a total of 3 months. He has been arround from 2006 when we had a joint workshop in Chengdu. This was in Dec 2012 when he first received the visiting professorship and visited us for planning.

ga_h2_3Baruch with Dominik Weiss of Imperial College visited us on March 7 2008. They were discussing with Professor Shen Chende on the radiocarbon dating of the peatbog samples collected during our Zoige trip in 2006. The result was published in Quaternary Science Reviews 28 (2009) 3303–3314, led by David Large of Nortingham University.

ga_h2_2_4Professor Tao Shu (陶澍院士)in Peking University has been a long-term collaborator with our group since 1996. Here we were investigating rural energy use in Yantai, Shandong, on January 9 2010. The corn cobs stored in the cage would be burn for domestic heating in the winter. The black carbon, fine particulates and PAHs emissions from rural biomass burning were thought to be very importatn sources for the air pollution in North China plain.

ga_h2_2_6Professor Feng Jialiang (冯家良,left 1) of Shanghai University helped us a lot with levoglucosane analysis. Professor Zhigang Guo (郭志刚,front right 2) of Fudan University has been a long term collaborator of the group since 2003 when he was a professor in China Ocean University. He was also Lin Tian’s boss. Professor Wang Gehui (王格慧)is an expert in aerosol chemistry, he works in Institute of Earth and Environment of CAS in Xi’an. This was on an Aisan dust conference held on August 10 2010 in Fudan University.

ga_h2_2_7We setup the Ningbo Atmospheric Environment Observatory (NAEO) on Stptember 9 2011. It was initiated by Zhang Yanlin (章炎麟)and Liu Xiang. Shown here were Professors Feng Xinbin (冯新斌, right 3) of Guiyang Institute of Geochemistry, Chen Jinsheng (陈进生 right 2)of Xiamen Institute of Urban Environment, Tang Jie (汤洁, left 1)of Chinese Academy of Meteorogical Sciences, and Chen Yingjun (陈颖军,right 1) of Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone.

ga_h2_2_8POPNET is a top saloon for POPs research in China. The annual gathering event was created in arround 2004 and has been the hall of fame for POP researchers. ga_h2_2_10Field trip to setup the field experiment site in Ding-Hu-Shan. This was the first trial of us to work on POPs fate in the subtropical forest. Dr Luca Nizzetto (right 1) was working in NIVA of Norway, he has been leading the research on the air-surface exchange of POPs in forests. Luca is a close collaborator with the group since 2006.

ga_h2_2_11Luca is an enthusiastic tuff guy. This picture was shown on the joint workshop on environment and global change, between China and Norway, on Shanghai World Exposure.

ga_h1_1_2Dr Xie Zhiyong and his boss Ralf in HZG Germany has been an close collaborator of the group in Germany. (2012.4.24)

ga_h1_1_5Zhang Zongyan (张宗雁) was the first MSc student from China Ocean University visited the group for >1 year. She prefers to being a happy housewife in Yantai.

ga_h1_1_6Claudia was the first western student to visit us. She stayed for 3 months with us. She is a research scientist in Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, the UK, in Lancaster.
