Participation in the 10th Youth Geoscience Forum

From May 9 to 13, Gan, Shizhen, Zhineng, and several former group members attended the 10th Youth Geoscience Forum held in Hefei. Shizhen co-organized and chaired the session on “Emerging Contaminants in the Atmosphere and Ocean” together with Ma Yuxin, Tang Jianhui, and Zhu Ying.

Gan was invited as a special guest and gave a keynote talk titled “An Atmospheric Science Perspective on Emerging Contaminants.” Shizhen also invited Liu Qifan to speak on “Atmospheric Chemistry of Emerging Pollutants” and Xing Xinli to present on “Tire Wear Particles in Road Dust.” Other attendees also gave excellent presentations, contributing to a highly successful and engaging session.

In addition to chairing the session, Shizhen gave a separate presentation on atmospheric microplastics in another session focused on emerging contaminants, further showcasing the group’s research on airborne microplastic pollution.

After the session, the group enjoyed a traditional Anhui-style dinner, where they continued exchanging ideas and strengthening connections in a relaxed setting.

Qingdao Academic Visit

From April 28 to 30, Gan and Shizhen visited Shandong University at the invitation of Caiqing Yan (闫才青). During the visit, Gan delivered a lecture on Dual Carbon Isotope Studies of Atmospheric Carbonaceous Components, while Shizhen gave a talk on Emerging Pollutants in the Atmosphere.

We also made a brief cultural visit to Mount Laoshang, including the historic Shangqing Palace, thoughtfully arranged by Zheng Zong(宗政), who was once a postdoctoral research fellow in our group. During our stay, we had the pleasure of reconnecting with colleagues and friends such as Runzeng Liu (刘润增), Lin Du (杜林), Likun Xue (薛丽坤), and others, and also enjoyed meeting some new friends.

Afterward, we visited Ocean University of China, where we had fruitful discussions with Limin Hu (胡利民) and Rui Bao (包锐). As part of the visit, Limin kindly arranged a tour of the university’s History Museum and scientific research platforms. Due to limited time, we weren’t able to visit the Yushan campus—but we hope to make it there next time.

It was a truly memorable and productive trip, made even more special by the warm hospitality of our friends in Shandong.

A Special Day for Prof. Gan – A Cherished Group Tradition

On April 5th, our research group joyfully celebrated the birthday of our esteemed leader, Prof. Gan Zhang. Over the years, this celebration has become a beloved annual tradition, bringing together group members to share warm wishes, delicious food, and cherished memories. The gathering not only marked a special day for Prof. Gan but also served as a wonderful opportunity to strengthen bonds and reflect on the collaborative spirit that defines our team. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the festive atmosphere and the time spent together. Special thanks to Jiao Tang for thoughtfully organizing this memorable event!

Happy Birthday to Prof. Gan!
