The 2nd ISEH

On Dec 5, Gan Zhang attended the 2nd International Symposium on Environmental Health (ISEH) at Shanghai. He gave a key note speech introducing the newly identified up-PCBs in the atmosphere of Ningbo regional atmospheric background station which was done by  Shuduan. It was very cold in Shanghai that day! He also chaired a session on ‘Toxicity characterization of emission sources’ with some ‘old’ friends and excellent young scientists, especially Wang Rong of Fudan-U who published his first paper, while he was a undergraduate student in Peking University, coauthored with Gan, who he haven’t met before!

Wang Rong (left 2) coauthored with me his first paper in his research career, but this was the first time we met. He is an excellent modeler in atmospheric science. Shown here also are Professor Mu Yujing (left 4) of RCEES.CAS and Mao Hongjun (left 5) of Nankai-U.

Andy Sweetman and Kevin Jones

Kevin Jones and Andy Sweetman visited Guangzhou, again, on teaching for the Belt & Road training course. Kevin was here from Nov 25-28. He gave lessons on PAS (with Gan) and DGT (with Luo Jun and Cheng Hao fro Nanjing University) on the 27th afternoon and the 28th, respectively. Andy paid a rush visit, arriving late on the 30th night and left back on the Dec 1 night. He introduced comprehensively risk assessment. They both are excellent in teaching!

Andy took an excursion in Baiyuan Mountain with Shizhen who has been working with him for 4 years for PhD study in Lancaster. Andy, Shizhen, Liu Xin and Gan were able to have a nice dinner at ‘The Eating Table’ in the Winter Plaza.

Liu Xin visited Lancaster 3 years ago.

Shizhen with her PhD supervisor.

POPs and PAS.

The secret of DGT.

Risk assessment of chemicals, the European approach.

Paromita visited the group

Paromita visited the institute and found big changes on the campus and in laboratory. She was with us in Guangzhou on Nov 28 to Dec 1, attending part of our B&R training course. She was able to meet once again Gan, Kevin, and many of her group mates. Paromita had been pursuing her PhD in the institute in from 2005 to 2009. She is working as an associate professor in SRM University, which ranks No 2 in all private universities in India.

Paromita is till publishing data from her early studies in the group. Here are two ‘big boss’ of her.

The group mates.

Happy group sisters meeting after 9 years.
