Two-day project workshop in Conghua

During 30^th June and 1^st July, the group organized a series of project workshop in Espring Hotel Guangzhou, proposed projects including ATMSYC (有毒有害大气污染物环境风险管理体系研究), LUR (基于土地利用回归模型的城区空气污染暴露预测智慧平台与应用) and SCP (南方污染观测与研究计划). We had the first full day of in-depth discussion on the further implementation of ATMYSYC. Invited guests include Prof. Tian Chongguo (田崇国) from Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, CAS and other key members in Project 4 and 5. They are Prof. Lai Senchao (赖森潮) from South China University of Technology, Prof. Zhang Yongbo (张永波), Prof. Liao Chenghao (廖程浩) and several researchers from Guangdong Provincial Academy of Environmental Science.

The kick-off meeting of UK-Guangdong urban innovation project (LUR) was held on the morning of 1^st of July. Attended stakeholders include Prof. Chen Duohong (陈多宏) from Guangdong Environmental Monitoring Centre and Dr. Fengbin (冯斌）from Guangzhou Bojin (博进) Information Technology Co., Ltd. We developed a detailed project plan and division of work. In the afternoon, the SCP was also discussed on its compulsory tasks and optional customized studies for the countries along the 21st-century maritime silk road.

Workshop on cosmogenic radio-nuclides in Xi’an

On June 1-4, Zhu Sanyuan, Cheng Zhineng and Zhang Gan attended the Workshop on cosmogenic radio-nuclides in Xi’an (宇宙成因核素测量技术与应用青年学术论坛）. Zhineng and Sanyuan gave talks over the audience. We also specially visited the Xi’an AMS Centre (西安加速器质谱中心）. The workshop will be a serial one, with Sanyuan and Ding Ping as council members.

Workshop on Environmental Monitoring Along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road

On May 26-27^th, workshop on Environmental Monitoring Along the 21^st Century Maritime Silk Road took place at Room 308 of Biaoben Building, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, CAS. The workshop was under a project of “Southern Contaminants Programme (SCP)” “南方污染观测与研究计划”, a CAS Belt & Road Initiative (中国科学院“一带一路”科技合作专项). Totally, more than 20 people participated the workshop, including two steering committee members of the project, Prof. Kevin C Jones from Lancaster University of UK and Prof. Mohamad Pauzi Bin Zakaria from University of Malaya, and six international partners, Dr. Muhammad Mansha from Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Jabir H. Syed from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology of Pakistan, Dr. Dwi Hindarti from Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Dr. Le Quang Dung from Vietnam, Prof. Md. Ahsan Habib from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Mr. Simion Kipkorir Bartilol from University of Nairobi, Kenya. We also specifically invited Prof. Hanping Zhuang, President and CEO of Jireh Technology of China, and Miss Ming Liu, Chief Representative of Technology and Innovation at the British Consulate-General Guangzhou. The workshop mainly consists of five sessions including welcome and background introduction by Gan, participants’ introductions, roundtable discussions, group discussions and lab tour. The workshop provides a good opportunity to meet and discuss deeply with each SCP partner, thus leading an extension of the international research network on toxic chemicals from East South Asia to South Asia and East Africa.
