Talk at SUSTech

On September 27, Gan and Shizhen visited the Department of Environment of South China University of Science and Technology (SUSTech, 南方科技大学）. We are invited by Professor Liu Congxuan （刘崇炫） of the university, and had nice opportunity to meet many of the colleagues in the department. Occasionally, we met Professor Tao Shu of PKU . Gan gave a talk on POPs which last for 1hr 20min! This half-day visit has been very fruitful.

Henning joined the Group. Welcome!

Henning, a master student from Technical University of Munich (慕尼黑工业大学), arrived today. In the following three months he will work in our lab for his thesis, together with Jiyun and Biao , using the 2D flow-through setups. We just showed him around campus and the lab. He was super excited about the dinner as well as the future work at GIG. 😊 We wish him a nice start at GIG. Last but not least, Henning is a two-meter tall kind man, and he is curious about China and everything here. Pls. talk to him and show your hospitality.

Dilanka MSc viva

On September 20th, Dilanka did her MSc viva. She worked on antibiotics in two sewage wastewater treatment plants in Sri Lanka, which is a pioneering work in the country. She also firstly compared antibiotics in Colombo, capital city of SL with those in a tourist town of Hikkadowa, and found that macrolide maybe serve as an indicator of foreign visitors, especially Indian, to SL. Dilaka’s tutor in university, Professor Tilak from Ruhuna University of SL came for her defense, and acted as the assessment panel chair. Her MSc defense was successful and impressive, with a score of ‘excellent’. Congratulations!
