Workshop on Environmental Monitoring Along the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road

On May 26-27^th, workshop on Environmental Monitoring Along the 21^st Century Maritime Silk Road took place at Room 308 of Biaoben Building, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, CAS. The workshop was under a project of “Southern Contaminants Programme (SCP)” “南方污染观测与研究计划”, a CAS Belt & Road Initiative (中国科学院“一带一路”科技合作专项). Totally, more than 20 people participated the workshop, including two steering committee members of the project, Prof. Kevin C Jones from Lancaster University of UK and Prof. Mohamad Pauzi Bin Zakaria from University of Malaya, and six international partners, Dr. Muhammad Mansha from Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission of Pakistan, Dr. Jabir H. Syed from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology of Pakistan, Dr. Dwi Hindarti from Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Dr. Le Quang Dung from Vietnam, Prof. Md. Ahsan Habib from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Mr. Simion Kipkorir Bartilol from University of Nairobi, Kenya. We also specifically invited Prof. Hanping Zhuang, President and CEO of Jireh Technology of China, and Miss Ming Liu, Chief Representative of Technology and Innovation at the British Consulate-General Guangzhou. The workshop mainly consists of five sessions including welcome and background introduction by Gan, participants’ introductions, roundtable discussions, group discussions and lab tour. The workshop provides a good opportunity to meet and discuss deeply with each SCP partner, thus leading an extension of the international research network on toxic chemicals from East South Asia to South Asia and East Africa.

Kick-off meeting of ATMSYC Project 2 in Lanzhou

On April 7^th, the kick-off meeting of Project 2 under the National Key R&D Program of China “Towards an Air Toxic Management SYstem in China (ATMSYC, 阿特姆赛克: http://www.atmsyc.cn/) took place in Lanzhou University. The event was dedicated to Project 2 (我国有毒有害大气污染物的环境健康风险评估模式构建). Around 15 people in total participated this meeting, including the project director, principal investigators, core research members and invited guests. The advisory board is consisted of Prof. Gong Shanling (龚山陵) of Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (中国气象科学研究院), Prof. Niu Wujiang (牛武江) of Gansu Province Environmental Monitoring Center (甘肃省环境监测中心站) and associate Prof. Tian Chongguo (田崇国) of Yantai Institute of Costal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (中国科学院烟台海岸带研究所). Kick-off meeting of ATMSYC Project 4&5 in Guangzhou

On March 23^rd, the kick-off meeting of Project 4&5 under the National Key R&D Program of China “Towards an Air Toxic Management SYstem in China (ATMSYC，阿特姆赛克) took place in Ramada Plaza Hotel in Guangzhou. The event was dedicated to Project 4 (重要风险源环境健康风险评估方法与管理体系) and Project 5 (珠江三角洲有毒有害大气污染物风险管控技术平台). A total of 20 people participated this meeting, including the project director, principle investigators, core research members and invited guests. We specially invited Prof. Zhu Fahua (朱法华) of the Guodian Research Institute of Environmental Protection (国电环境保护研究院), Prof. Zhang Jinliang (张金良) of the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (中国环境科学研究院), Prof. Ma Jianmin (马建民) of Peking University (北京大学), Prof. Yuan Zibing (袁自冰) of South China University of Technology (华南理工大学), Prof. Chen Yingjun (陈颖军) of Tongji University (同济大学) and Prof. Zhang Yanlin (章炎麟) of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (南京信息工程大学) as the advisory board. This kick-off meeting was hold successfully, which further clarified detailed implementation plan and laid a solid foundation for future development.
