Haoyu publishes in ES&T

As a gift to the National Day, Haoyu published an important paper in ES&T entitled ‘Using Polyurethane Foam-Based Passive Air Sampling Technique to Monitor Monosaccharides at a Regional Scale’. This is her first ES&T paper. Congratulations!

To be  No 1! I am sure that it will be a benchmark of regional monitoring of biomass burning across the earth planet.

It was a team work . Of the study, Haoyu did the experiment, wrote the manuscript; Guangcai supervised the chemical analysis; Tian Congguo of  YIC coded the computer program/model for counting fire spots within 50 km of each sampling point, based on MODIS fire products;  Yu Zhiqiang helped in managing the field sampling campaign; Li Jun joined discussions and managed the field sampling; Jiaqi, Hongxin, Shizhen helped with the experiment and joined the discussions; Lidia Morawska of QUT joined the discussion and polished the text. Gan Zhang inspired and designed the study.

Kevin, Doug and Tri visited on September

During 13th ~18th of September, Prof. Kevin Jones from Lancaster University and Mr. Douglas Booker from National Air Quality Testing Services Ltd visited us to kick off our cooperative UK-Guangdong Urban-Innovation project “Intraurban air pollution exposure prediction: a smart platform and applications using land-use regression (LUR) model”. Other participant organizations of this project include Guangdong Environmental Monitoring Centre (Dr Chen Duohong,陈多宏高工) and  Guangzhou Bojin Information Technology Co Ltd.(Dr Feng Bin,冯斌总经理)

Meanwhile, we also have Prof. Tri Manh Tran from Vietnam National University (VNU University of Science) visited us to discuss our potential cooperation under the framework of the Southern Contaminants Programme (SCP).

All these discussions facilitate our mutual understanding and we look forward to a fruitful collaboration!

What a small world! Riffat was excited to meet Kevin in Guangzhou.

Gan led the lab tour with Tri (left) and Doug (mid).

We visited Guangdong Atmospheric Supersite of China in Heshan, Jiangmen. Kevin and Doug were really impressed by the advanced equipment adapted in the supersite station. We visited Guangzhou Bojin Information Technology Co Ltd.  Dr Fengbin (the founder and CEO) was introducing his company. Night view in  Haixinsha. Eva (left) from CSIC of Spain joined us. She is going to stay with us in Guangzhou for 3 months for her PhD overseas stage.

Discussing with Prof. Tri (right) from VNU University of Sciences of Vietnam in Honoi.Doug was introducing his career and family business. We are cheerful to our productive output.
